In the past six months, my interest has shifted to hardware again. When I look back at Netflix/Disney/YouTube and other streaming media, the changes in purchase restrictions seem like a lifetime ago. It's only been six months, but various card locks, region locks, and in-app purchase restrictions have emerged one after another, which makes me question my life.

In a nutshell, most of the possibilities of cross-region smuggling have been blocked. In traditional low-price regions such as Nigeria, Turkey, Egypt, and India, measures such as substantial price increases, card and region locks, cancellation of Apple/Google in-app purchases, and cancellation of family groups have been implemented. If local apps do not support gift card recharges, and you do not have a local (virtual) bank card, then there is basically no possibility of paid purchases and shared rentals.

Of course, some old accounts are not affected by the change in renewal prices and payment methods. For example, in low-price App Stores such as Turkey and Nigeria, Disney still supports renewal; in YouTube Premium, although new accounts in low-price areas can no longer enable family group subscriptions, old accounts can still be used normally.

In 2025, the subscription price dividends brought by exchange rates, cross-regional factors, etc. are disappearing rapidly. Large shared housing platforms are either looking for new value troughs or starting to launch their own media aggregation software. For those of us who share housing, what we encounter is a sharp increase in account prices and frequent rollovers. Take Netflix as an example. The price of the shared housing platform has increased from 240 yuan to 340 yuan, an increase of 40%, and the frequency of rollovers has also increased significantly.

Many friends came here after watching my tutorials in 2023 or 2024, and then left a message saying "Why can't I pay successfully?" Therefore, I recorded the changes in registration and subscription of various streaming media over the past year, hoping to help you.

1. Local e-wallets and virtual bank cards

If you still want to subscribe to low-price apps, finding a way to "get" a virtual bank card has become a necessary prerequisite.

I have sharedNigeria eSIM CardFriends who want to buy accounts must understand one thing: you are buying a mobile phone number/bank account registered with someone else's identity information. The owner can apply for recovery as long as he has his ID card and his face, it depends on whether he wants to.

Many fans have sent me private messages or comments: their mobile phone number/Paga account has been recovered, and asked me what to do?

When you encounter this situation, there is nothing you can do but rely on luck.

The transaction process of this type of gray industry, from the chat tools used, unknown sellers to the digital currency traded, is all outside of supervision.

The way to reduce the risk is to keep less money in your wallet and transfer only as much as you need.

So, when you decide to buy an account, first calculate the cost of purchasing the account, the monthly account usage fee, the currency exchange and transfer fee, as well as the time and energy you spend, and whether it is worth doing.

2. Netflix: Best in Nigeria with a locked card and locked region

  • lock card
  • Limit in-app purchases
  • Low-price areas will occasionally clear out risky users

As one of the most well-known streaming platforms in the hearts of Chinese people, Netflix has the strictest restrictions. Pakistan and Egypt, which have long become a thing of the past, are not to be mentioned, and Turkey, which has doubled its prices, has also become a passerby. The only region that still has a price advantage and relatively convenient payment methods is Nigeria.

In March 2024, Netflix cancelled the in-app purchase method of Apple's app store, joining the army of refusing to pay the "Apple tax". For new registered users, the only way left is to purchase subscriptions with a bank card on the web.

So, this brings us back to the original question, should I buy a Nigerian mobile phone card and e-wallet for Netflix?

If you are an individual user and do not have a strong desire to pay for other subscription software and services, don't get involved. Not only is it time-consuming and laborious, but if you get scammed once, you will lose the little money you saved. It is better to find other people to share the rent.

A reminder to friends who want to get a Nigerian virtual bank card: Netflix only supports Naira cards, not US dollar cards.

In addition, if you can get a full 5-person group on Netflix and don't have other payment methods in low-cost countries, I still recommend considering Turkey. Although the price in Turkey has reached 60 yuan/month (299 Turkish lira), Netflix in Turkey supports gift card consumption, and there is also an e-commerce platform called oyunfor where you can directly purchase official gift cards, which is also very safe.

By the way, friends who want to register a new account should pay attention: Netflix's mobile phone verification and password binding and mobile phone recall both require local mobile phone numbers, especially the latter, and you can no longer use mobile phone numbers from other countries.

3. Disney Plus: Limit in-app purchases, old accounts can be renewed temporarily

  • Limit in-app purchases
  • Old accounts can still be renewed

Before this, the cheap way to watch Disney was to take advantage of the cross-region payment feature of the Apple App Store. In simple terms, you would register an account in a region with more complete copyrights, such as the United States or Singapore, and then pay with an Apple ID in a low-price region, such as Turkey or Nigeria.

However, in early 2024, Disney doubled the price in the local area, and in October 2024, announced the suspension of Apple in-app purchases and withdrew from the Nigerian market. This resulted in new users basically not being able to enjoy the benefits of the low-price zone.

Fortunately, old accounts are not affected at present and can still be renewed on the App Store. These friends should cherish their accounts.

The tutorials currently circulating online say that you can still use Nigerian Apple IDs to pay for Disney, and they are all old users. If you register a new account, you can no longer open the app, let alone pay within the app, and you cannot take advantage of the App Store's cross-region payment bug.

In the past year, most software prices have doubled, and Turkey is no longer a low-price zone. At the same time, the Central Bank of Turkey has issued a policy that only virtual bank cards are allowed to purchase local services; plus the cost of keeping a Turkish mobile phone number is extremely high, so there is no need to spend more effort in this area.

As for how new users can pay in the low-price area, I have no idea. I hope friends who know how can share it in the comment section.

4. YouTube Premium: Family groups are cancelled in low-price tiers

  • lock card
  • New users: Family Group subscriptions are only supported in a few countries
  • Old user home groups are not affected

In the second half of 2024, many friends who subscribed to YouTube Premium in the low-price zone have received emails asking them to change their payment methods. In other words, YouTube has also started to lock cards. Not only that, even if you have a virtual bank card like in Nigeria, or buy a Google gift card in Turkey, you cannot open a new family group. (Some friends have also tried Ghana, but it doesn't work now.)

This is because, under YouTube's new policy, family group subscriptions are only available in the United States, Germany, France, Australia and the United Kingdom, and the subscription prices in these countries are ridiculously expensive.

Similar to Disney, accounts in Nigeria, Turkey, etc. that have already opened family groups are not affected for the time being and can still use the family group function. Therefore, old YouTube accounts should be cherished.

In short, in 2025, if you want to register a new account and watch Netflix, Disney and YouTube at a low price, there is basically no way. If your old account is still usable, cherish it. When the growth of incremental users tends to stagnate and companies begin to demand profits from existing users, they will naturally not accept the "tolls" of platform stores like Google and Apple, and various price bugs will inevitably gradually disappear.

Okay, if you find it useful, just follow it.

If you think it’s good, just click on the advertisement, which is also an encouragement to the author.

As for the carpooling of the above-mentioned product, it depends on fate. Someone can get on only when someone gets off.
