I didn’t plan to write it down originally, but I found something interesting, so I wrote it down.

To give you a direct answer, if you receive an email from OCBC asking for proof of residence, use Wise to transfer the OCBC funds directly to the Wise Singapore account with zero loss.

The following is a tutorial I wrote about how to apply and use Wise, which you can refer to:

Wise series tutorial

It should be added that to open Wise virtual and physical bank cards, you can do this:By changing the address, three virtual cards were opened in three countries including Malaysia; the first physical card was arbitrary, and the second one (environmental protection card) was changed to the UK.

Here are the reasons:It is difficult to open a bank card in Malaysia, and obtaining it through wise's virtual card is a good way; only the UK can open a second physical card.

After doing this, you will have bank cards in up to 5 countries.

The regrettable thing is that my address was put under risk control very early on. After submitting proof of residence, I can only be fixed in the UK and can’t do these cool things.

About OCBC, the second largest bank in Singapore, opened the door to mainland users more than a year ago. Only a Chinese passport was needed to apply for an account remotely, thus becoming a springboard for purchasing overseas assets and services. I remember that at that time, the interest rate of the three-month US dollar time deposit was close to 5%.

In addition to Wise, OCBC is the second overseas bank card I got.

However, since the second half of this year, OCBC has begun to raise the application threshold (providing various proofs in Singapore), and at the end of the year, it even began to directly dismiss mainland users who could not provide proof of residence. In early December, I also received an email:

Fortunately, I had Wise, which transferred the funds in my account to my Singapore account without any loss.

I only left 0.01 SGD in OCBC to see if after December 15th the account will only be able to withdraw money but not deposit money as stated in the email notification.

So, on the 18th, I used Wise to transfer 0.01 SGD to the account, and it worked. It seems that the account is still normal. But don't rely on luck. Friends who have the same experience should transfer funds as soon as possible.

In short, for those who want to have a bank card that can facilitate overseas payments, you can search more about the opening process of Bank of China/ICBC/HSBC Hong Kong Bank, as well as cross-border payment, digital banking and encrypted bank card tools such as Wise, N26, and Bybit.

It is always better to be prepared if you have more bank cards in hand.

Okay, after some casual chat, if you find it useful, just follow it.
