Day 1: Beijing - Urumqi<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

On the first day, I flew to Urumqi to meet my wife. I took my kids to visit Hotan Second Street, International Grand Bazaar and Consulate Alley. Yes, we mainly ate and killed time. Unfortunately, the museum was closed, so I didn't go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These three places are not far from each other and can be walked. In addition, except for Consulate Alley, all other streets are pedestrian streets, so don't drive, as these places are extremely congested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My evaluation of these three places in Urumqi is that they are like Wangfujing, Nanluoguxiang in Beijing or Huimin Street in Xi'an. If you think that these kinds of commercial pedestrian streets that seem to have city characteristics are good, then they are really good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1<\/em>, Supermarket: Restocking supplies<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Since we were going to Kanas the next day, we had to replenish supplies, including mineral water, bread and various snacks. We spent more than 200 yuan in the supermarket at Wanda Plaza. Among them, we bought two bottles of mineral water and a large 5L bucket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I thought it was a bit too much at the time, but I was glad after I went there. Kanas is really a food desert, and the prices in the scenic area and surrounding areas are extremely expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2<\/em>, Night Market Food Stalls<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

There is a large night market food stall outside Wanda Plaza. Friends who want to experience it can go shopping and eat without driving out. I found it after I came out, so I parked the car on the side of the road, and there were special police next to me. It was quite safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 2: Urumqi - Burqin<\/h3>\n\n\n

We drove 580 kilometers that day, mostly in a hurry. We set out at 10 a.m. and arrived in Burqin at 18 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were only three servers where I could refuel along the way. The first one, the Karamay service area, was about 200 kilometers away, so I recharged my battery at this server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Karamay Service Area is a tourist attraction where you can see the sea of sand and ride camels, but I think it's just average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the desert highway, in my imagination, it was a straight road through the vast sea of sand. In reality, I thought too much. The vastness of Xinjiang is shocking, but it definitely does not include any desert highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you get near Burqin, you will pass by Ulungur Lake, the second largest freshwater lake in Xinjiang. It is recommended that you stop and take pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I won\u2019t mention Wucai Beach. I just entered the scenic area and spent more than an hour waiting for a sunset that moved me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At about 10pm, I came back from Wucai Beach and walked around the food street on Baihua Road. I rated this place as a street for ripping off customers. It was the first time I felt the ridiculously high prices in Xinjiang scenic spots. Half a portion of pepper chicken cost 90 yuan, and the huge plate was impressive, but there were not many pieces of edible meat, which was ridiculous. It can be expensive, but not low quality!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, just across the street there is a nice fly-in-the-wall restaurant that is worth a visit. We\u2019ll talk about it on the fourth day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 3: Burqin - Jiadengyu<\/h3>\n\n\n

We set off at 10 o'clock in the morning and drove for 2 hours to arrive at the Jiadengyu Tourist Service Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the way, it takes about an hour to drive from Kanas Toll Station to Jiadengyu. The grassland scenery along the way is worth stopping to appreciate. You can consider leaving at 9 o'clock and leave about an hour for this section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 13:00 to 20:00, I did two things in Kanas, climbing the Fish Viewing Terrace and hiking to Sanwan. The time was quite tight. It took 0.5 hours to take the bus to the scenic area, 0.5 hours to take the bus from the scenic area to the Fish Viewing Terrace, 1.5 hours to go up and down the Fish Viewing Terrace, 0.5 hours to return to the scenic area center, 10 minutes to take the bus to Shenxian Bay, and 3 hours to hike to Sanwan... 20:00 was the last bus to the scenic area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, if you want to be more leisurely, set off earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After returning to Jiadengyu, there was actually nothing to eat at night. I have already commented on the surrounding restaurants in the hotel section, which are quite lackluster. At night, there are no street lights here, so be careful when driving out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 4: Jiadengyu - Hemu Village - Burqin<\/h3>\n\n\n

We set off at around 10 o'clock in the morning and arrived at the ticket gate of Hemu Village in a little over an hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It takes nearly an hour to get to the Hemu Village Bus Transfer Station by bus. There are two routes here, one is to take the Sky Coaster to see the four borders, and the other is to take the bus around Hemu Village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to go to Hemu Bridge and Harden Observation Deck, get off at Qiaotou Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August, you can visit other stations at will. The scenery at Birch Forest Station is average, and it is estimated that it will be better in autumn and winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the grasslands in Kanas had already turned yellow in August and the children were listless (they had a fever, but we thought it was from the sun), we gave up the beautiful wind ride. So we had plenty of time to return to Burqin. We took the return bus at around 18:00 and drove back to Burqin at 19:00, arriving in Burqin at around 21:00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Burqin, I highly recommend a small shop that makes spicy chicken. It is just opposite the Baihuayuan Road Food Street. It is called Xiangyuan Spicy Chicken. This restaurant has only 5-6 large tables and the supply is limited every day. Remember to call in advance in the afternoon to make a reservation. It is basically not available for last-minute visits. In addition to spicy chicken, only a few vegetarian dishes are provided. A serving of spicy chicken and a serving of noodles seems to be 138 yuan. If there are more people, you can add an extra serving of noodles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, we also ate the spicy chicken in Urumqi, and our whole family thought it was really well made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you want to buy some affordable Xinjiang fruits, you can go to Rongguoguo Fresh, which is also near this restaurant. Hami melon is about 5 yuan each. This is recommended by the front desk of Burqin Wenyuan Hotel, and they buy their goods from here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 5: Burqin - Devil City - Baiyang River Grand Canyon - Kuitun<\/h3>\n\n\n

In the morning, I went to the charging station near the hotel to charge my battery, and then set off to Kuitun. On the way, I passed through the Devil City and visited the Baiyang River Grand Canyon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting today, it started to rain in most areas of Xinjiang, including Kanas and Sailimu Lake. I feel quite lucky. The scenery along the way made me really fall in love with Xinjiang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I checked in at the gate of the World Devil City Scenic Area, but didn't go in to see the stones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then we went to the Baiyang River Grand Canyon, which was a 15-minute drive away, but there was not a single person in sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We arrived in Kuitun around 7pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We went to the supermarket to buy some supplies, and then I experienced how cramped the parking lot outside the supermarket was. This made me very confused. Xinjiang is so big, why are the parking lots in the cities we pass by so small? ! And the parking lots are randomly placed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For dinner, we went to Jianpuzhai Dapanji, which was recommended by Meituan. The Dapanji tasted good, but not unique; the yellow noodle barbecue was a bit expensive, but tasted good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 6: Kuitun - Sailimu Lake - Bole City<\/h3>\n\n\n

After routine charging in the morning, I drove for 3.5 hours and arrived at Sailimu Lake at around 12 o'clock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the initial plan, I was going to go to Dushanzi Grand Canyon and Duku Highway. However, the Dushanzi Grand Canyon was not well-received, the weather on Duku Highway was not very good, and since it was my first long-distance self-driving trip, I found it unrealistic to drive for seven or eight hours straight, so I gave up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Sailimu Lake, maybe it rained yesterday, it seemed that there were not many cars entering the scenic area. We waited in line at the East Gate for no more than 10 minutes before entering. We drove clockwise, first took a sailboat to tour the lake, and then stopped and took pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the crowds of Kanas, this place is as peaceful and relaxing as the lake, which "makes me uncomfortable". If I were driving an MPV, I would definitely stay overnight at Sailimu Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At around 20:00, we came out of the South Gate, took some photos at the Guozigou Bridge viewing platform, and then returned to Bole City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A little episode: Maybe I had set the Guozigou Bridge as a waypoint, but I ended up taking a big detour and spending an extra hour, which meant I didn\u2019t get back to the hotel until 11pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bole City has good municipal infrastructure. After getting off the national highway, there is a straight and bright road of more than 10 kilometers. Although it is already 11pm, there are still people riding on both sides. But be sure to pay attention when driving, just like Kuitun, there are right turn signals at almost every intersection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 7: Bole City \u2013 Shihezi<\/h3>\n\n\n

After the high-intensity exercise in the first few days, the itinerary and intensity of the next few days were much easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was originally going to go back to Urumqi directly, but I found that I was passing through Shihezi, so I wanted to eat some cold noodles before leaving, so I changed my itinerary temporarily. It takes about 4 hours to drive from Bole to Shihezi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shihezi is the first military reclamation city in New China. Although the city construction is slightly inferior to Bole City, it has a strong sense of fireworks. For example, the Liangpi Street in the living area of the Bayi Woolen Textile Factory has attracted many tourists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a small shop selling naan in the local area. It is said that the queue starts at noon. We went there at 17:00, which is equivalent to 2 or 3 in the afternoon in Xinjiang. Unexpectedly, there was already a long queue. We waited for an hour. A local lady in front of us bought 60 naan. Respect~<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 8: Shihezi - Urumqi<\/h3>\n\n\n

It only takes 2 hours to drive from Shihezi to Urumqi. I finally returned to the "congested" Urumqi. This was my first time to experience the traffic jam in the urban area of Urumqi. It was congested and people cut in line at will, which made me doubt my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1<\/em>, Xinjiang Autonomous Region Museum<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

There is nothing much to say about the museum itself. You can make an appointment in advance. There are many places available. If you want to drive there, you can either go to the parking lot of the shopping mall next to it, or do what I did and drive forward for more than 100 meters on the museum side road. You can see cars parked on the side road and park there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for whether there will be a note... Anyway, I didn't, I wish you luck~<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2<\/em>, Catering: Pomegranate is Red (Hongfu Branch)<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This restaurant is the most popular restaurant in Shayibake District on Meituan. We ordered a hand-pulled mutton set meal, which tasted really good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the Poinsettia in the set meal looks to me like Maoxuewang, a low-end version at that, and the taste is average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, if you want to eat hand-pulled meat, you can also consider ordering it a la carte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3<\/em>, National Grand Bazaar<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

On the first day when I arrived in Urumqi, the online taxi driver said that when the International Grand Bazaar was congested, it would take an hour to get in and out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I originally planned to walk there, but my laziness overcame my fear of trouble, so I drove in. After a roundabout way, I parked on the roadside of the shopping mall opposite the International Bus Station. This location is very good: there is parking for cars, and it is very close to the International Grand Bazaar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After walking around, we ate more than a dozen skewers of barbecue in a nearby residential area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the International Grand Bazaar, I still say the same thing: if you can recognize the pedestrian street\/food street built as a city\u2019s business card, you will be very tolerant of it and will have a good shopping experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day 9: Urumqi - Beijing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In fact, I left two days for Urumqi. I originally wanted to go to Tianchi and Turpan, but I gave up in the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the last day, I wandered around the hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I really don't understand why this restaurant is on Meituan's must-eat list. Are there no other good restaurants in Urumqi?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The baursak and the various jams served here are very average. For the same dishes, I think the Narxiang breakfast shop in Burqin is not inferior to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key is that parking is very troublesome in this store. Although it is not bad enough to give a bad review, the experience is average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2<\/em>, Golden Leaf Restaurant<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

This restaurant is behind the subway station and is hard to find. Parking nearby is also a bit troublesome. But you can actually park in front of the restaurant. Friends who are not familiar with the road can call the owner in advance for consultation. He is very friendly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I went there, I just looked for cars parked on the roadside and parked behind them. It takes a pair of eyes to discover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This restaurant doesn\u2019t have a high rating on Meituan, but the barbecue is very delicious. It\u2019s 3 yuan a skewer, plus a bowl of spicy noodles, it\u2019s very satisfying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the taste of the spicy chicken is average and not as good as the one in Burqin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3<\/em>, Hongshan Dried Fruit Market<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I came here to buy some Xinjiang specialties before returning to Beijing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is very difficult to park inside this market. If you can't park inside, drive out and drive around the perimeter. There are many restaurants outside one of the gates, and you can park on the roadside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My wife's experience is that you can find some small shops inside and bargain. Big shops have a lot of customers, so the bosses usually refuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free shipping for orders over 100 yuan, very convenient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. Things to note when traveling by car in Xinjiang<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Regarding Xinjiang travel tips, I read a lot when I went there, but after coming back, the only ones I remember are these:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sun protection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is indeed very sunny in Xinjiang, so hats, sunglasses and sunscreen are essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hydration<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a northerner, I don't feel the dryness of Xinjiang very well. But it's not wrong to drink more water. In addition, when I was waiting for the bus in Kanas, I did see some children with nosebleeds. Friends from humid areas, please bring more erythromycin ointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My wife caught a cold the next day, and my child had a fever. So, medicines for treating colds\/fever\/diarrhea\/heat-reducing are essential, and you can also bring some band-aids to prevent bumps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ID card<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn't encounter any ID card inspection, but because Xinjiang gas stations require ID cards to enter and refuel, they must carry them with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gas stations are a scarce resource in the service areas of Xinjiang highways. Usually there is only one every 100 or 200 kilometers. You must plan your route reasonably. In addition, there may be situations where you can charge but not refuel in the service area, which is very friendly to pure electric, plug-in hybrid and extended-range vehicles. Of course, friends who drive pure electric vehicles in Xinjiang are all warriors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Temperature difference<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a northerner wandering in northern Xinjiang in mid-to-late August, I didn't feel the cold in Xinjiang at all. I only wore the coat once at Sayram Lake. So, just bring one as a spare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work and rest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August, the sunset time in Xinjiang is around 21:00. Therefore, the local schedule is two hours later than other regions. For example, the breakfast time in hotels may be from 6 to 9 in other places, but in Xinjiang it is mostly from 8 to 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Accordingly, the daytime travel plan can be extended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Violations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xinjiang Expressway will punish anyone who wants to speed, so be sure not to speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, I also don't understand why: on a highway with a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour, there are dozens of kilometers of sections with speed measurements at 80 kilometers per hour. Then after one section ends, it seamlessly connects to the next section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Therefore, driving a vehicle with lane keeping and ACC adaptive cruise control is much easier. The car I drove can also automatically adjust the speed according to the speed limit of the road section and the electronic speed eye. In addition, there are basically no cars on the Xinjiang highway, so long-distance self-driving is a kind of enjoyment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urban Transportation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a saying on the Internet: the new A is tactical penetration, and the new F flies close to the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New A is Urumqi, and new F is Yili. How could you say that it was such a coincidence that we both caught up. Especially in the urban area of Urumqi, regardless of the road conditions and the virtual and real lines, vehicles will change lanes and cut in line without any signs, and in addition, cars will park randomly in congested lanes. Friends who drive by themselves must be careful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
