During the Qingming Festival, I got a Talkatone US mobile number. The whole process was very interesting, so I'd like to share it with you.
Just to introduce to those who don't know, Talkatone is an app. It is a free communication application based on VoIP technology. By registering, you can getUS physical phone number, supports cross-platform use (iOS/Android/tablet).
For Chinese people, the advantage of Talkatone is that you can have a US number that is recognized as an entity at a low cost, and it is free to make calls to US/Canada numbers, receive free text messages, and make international long-distance calls. The biggest expense of holding Talkatone is to spend $0.99 to buy credit points to unlock free text messages. It is equivalent to spending $1 to buy a long-term receiving code number.
Its inconvenience is also obvious, mainly in the application and use of the network environment. Strictly speaking, dual ISP IP is required. General airports and VPS are not applicable. In addition, if you don't want to spend $3.99/month to keep the number, you have to send a text message or make a call every month. It is a test of a person's time management ability.
Of course, the reason why I shared this later is because I found a way to unlock dual ISP nodes for free. So, friends who want to have a US number might as well give it a try.
1. Preparation
1. A mobile phone that supports eSIM
This phone can be an unlocked overseas phone, or a domestic phone with a purchased eSIM card inserted (such as the 5ber that is rumored to have run away).
If none of the above is available, the alternative is to buy a dual ISP VPS, airport or IP. The risk of this solution is that Talkatone is ridiculously strict in reviewing the IP when applying. In addition to mobile phone traffic, it is easy to be identified as using a VPN tool.
In other words, if the IP quality is not suitable, the app cannot be opened; if the IP quality is suitable, if you use tools such as Singbox or V2ray directly on your phone, it will be identified as using a VPN, which will not work. [At the end of the article, I will talk about the purchase and registration of dual ISP IPs]
Therefore, the safest way is to register using international data on your mobile phone.
That is Eskimo, which gives you 500MB of international data traffic when you sign up, which is just right for signing up for Talkatone.
Eskimo: Registration link
[You can get 500M global traffic through my invitation link. I used it to complete the registration]
2. Virtual positioning
Although late, it is still a good operation. The specific operation is inVirtual Positioning TutorialThe operations of iOS and Android are demonstrated separately.
Don't try it if you have iOS 18, the virtual location will be refreshed instantly by the system and it will be useless. iOS 16.7.10 has no problem. Not sure if iOS 17 can do it.
If Android phone users feel that there are too many FlashGo ads, they can use Fake GPS Location. The operation process is basically the same.
Talkatone supported countries:
United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain, Japan, South Korea, Singapore
If you use Eskimo's free registration traffic, you can log in to ip.sb to confirm the location of the IP, which is located in Singapore.
2. Talkatone Registration
Since the key to Talkatone registration is network and location, I won’t take screenshots. I will share a video later.
First download Talkatone. For Android phones, go to the Google Store. For iPhone, remember to change to a US account.
The specific operation is:
1. Install eSIM using Eskimo and remember to turn on data roaming in the sim settings. Then turn off Wi-Fi and use ip.sb to check if the mobile network has been located in Singapore.
2. Use virtual positioning software to locate your phone in Singapore.
3. Regarding the time zone of your mobile phone, in theory it will automatically change based on the location and network, so you don’t need to set it. And Singapore and China have the same time zone, so you don’t need to worry about it. But if you are in another country, you should pay attention to the settings yourself.
Many tutorials suggest using an iPhone to complete the registration. But I encountered problems using both iOS 16 and iOS 18 phones.
iOS16: Prompt that the network cannot be connected
iOS18: Unable to locate
So, in the end, I changed the location of pixel9 pro fold and used Eskimo traffic to complete the registration.
The entire registration process is to log in using Google, fill in your name, email address, age, and then you will be assigned a mobile phone number, and that's it.
Finally, you need to pay $0.99 to purchase Credits. Path: "Setting—Credits"
3. Daily Use of Talkatone
Many tutorials mention that Talkatone also requires a residential IP, which is a home broadband ISP. Then they will recommend you a VPS, airport or IP service provider. In fact, you don’t have to!
If you're using an iPhone, you can do this:
First method: Download DNSecure and select the last server. Then in "Settings - General - VPN and Device Management - DNS", select "DNSecure". In this way, you can log in to Talkatone normally.
Second method: Install the ShadowSocket module
This module has the function of blocking some Talkatone advertisements, which is pretty good.
If you are using an Android phone, to sum it up in one sentence: it’s so powerful that bricks can fly!
As long as you have enough nodes, change the global mode, ignore various errors, and verify and log in frantically, you will always be able to log in.
What is also outrageous is that I bought a residential IP http proxy and a dual ISP VPS, but I couldn't register or log in. Then I changed to greencloud's Japan and Singapore nodes, and they all worked. These two nodes are the IP addresses of the data center!
So, don't listen to those tutorials that tell you to buy a residential IP. Talkatone's strict review of IP is only during the registration process, and it is not so strict for daily use.
4. Should I apply for Talkatone?
Regarding Talkatone, we can provide an application perspective for reference.
As we all know, the best card to keep your number in the US is Ultramobile's PayGo, which costs $3/month and allows you to make and receive free calls and text messages in China through Wi-Fi calling. This is the one I use most often.
However, this card is not friendly to new users recently and is being blocked in large quantities. Friends who want to buy it should be cautious and never use the IP of the computer room to activate it. In any case, if you need to hold a US physical phone card for a long time, it is recommended to choose from the three major operators.
However, it is very difficult to apply for and keep a Google Voice number. In addition to receiving text messages, if you occasionally need to make overseas (non-US) calls, Talkatone's cheap phone rates can make up for the missing link of the number preservation card.
Finally, let me talk about the mentality of the wool party. It can be useless, but it can’t be absent.
How many random applications have started to increase in intensity? Why not save them while you have the chance?
5. About Residential IP (Dual ISP)
I have written about some special VPS before, and many friends have asked about ISP VPS. Because this kind of product is already linked to professional fields, the scene requirements are personalized, and the unit price is high, so they are not very interested. However, thanks to Talkatone, I found some cost-effective products that I can share.
Putting aside the professional needs of cross-border e-commerce, overseas promotion, Tiktok operation, etc., for ordinary people like us, the biggest advantage of using residential IP is that it can avoid various verifications and risk controls as much as possible. For example, when registering a Google account, you will not be asked to provide a mobile phone number (in-person verification).
Therefore, friends with a budget can consider moving from the computer room to a self-built vps. Of course, if you just want to watch streaming media, it is not necessary.
The following products are what I use and I think they are good:
1. Want to change residential IP frequently
There is not much difference between these two products. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. You can compare them by yourself. I think the traffic price of IPRoyal is slightly higher, but the operation experience is slightly better. Dataimpulse is a little more cost-effective, but the single purchase volume is more.
2,Dual ISP VPS: $3/month/bidirectional 750G
The price is only about 1/3 of other ISP service providers, with ordinary lines and decent speed. When I bought it, there were more than 170 units. As for the speed, hurry up and you will miss it (remember to choose dual ISP750G, the lowest configuration, which is 3 US dollars per month, 10% off for annual payment). When I was writing this article, San Jose suddenly released one, and I was happy to grab it. God rewards hard work.
This is the test data of Salt Lake City, USA:
https://paste.spiritlhl.net/#/show/GzgXM.txt
I won’t release the ones in San Jose, since you can’t get them anyway.
Okay, if you find it useful, just follow it.
